Jared's brain. 09.26.00

Today's going to be a little dull. I just wanted to tell you how I do my updates.

It works like this: I add a link to the index file. This link starts out broken. Next I copy my template over to the day's file and start editing. Typically, I fill in the musical quote first and then set the permissions on the file so you all can read it. The link is now fixed. If I haven't been being lazy I will go ahead and start writing the update right then. If I have been that means I will be cutting and pasting the update out of an e-mail I sent myself earlier. This last step may happen days later, as is the case with today.

I'm a little too undisciplined to manage an update every day but I will try. Also, there are times when I just don't feel like sitting at the computer... so I don't :)

So now you know, and knowing is half the battle. *evilgrin*

In case this hadn't already become abundantly clear I do my update in two parts. Part I is the really evil part where I unload my brain. Part II is the leftovers... or, as it is labelled, some stuff.

I'm going to knock off now. Clark and I have spent most of the evening up at work making still more of our endless tweaks to the mail server. Note to the sendmail maintainers: the LDAP map code is BROKEN... we patched around it. Note to the cyrus project at cmu: There is a bug in deliver.c. You were checking the wrong return value!

Some stuff

Umm... lessee... today's musical rec is... ummm... Tom Jones. I'm not joking. Most of his stuff is crap *ducks* but he recently came out with an album called _Reload_. It's a collaboration with some more relevant musicians and it's great! Of particular note are Motherless Child with Portishead and Burning Down the House with the Cardigans. Fear Tom's Le3tnes5!

I would like to recommend a movie today, as well. If you haven't seen it go watch Starship Troopers. It's directed by that guy that did Basic Instinct, I believe. It's a great movie! It is plot-light, immensely entertaining, CG Bug-laden, and it's got Doogie! If that's not enough what is? Oh yeah... the sound is great, as well.

The neat thing about this movie is that it is PURE PULP SCIENCE-FICTION of the likes unseen in our modern, and dare I say, unimaginative movie-going times.

Buy a DVD player and DVDs. You must. I command it.

"Some people won't dance if they don't know who's singing. Why ask your head, it's your hips that are swinging. Life's for us to enjoy... woman, man.. girl and boy... feel the pain, feel the joy... that's just a little bit of history repeating "

As always, if this sparks you or you want to share something with me, please do so.
