I don't really have much to say today. My allergies are killing me. It's that time of the year in lovely Oklahoma. It leaves me unable to concentrate and with little desire to do much of anything. Ugh. I heard part of an interesting program on NPR about teenagers and sexuality yesterday. I need to see if they have archives of the old shows. Sex is one of my favorite topics for discussion and this show raised some interesting points. I'm going to look in to it and get back to you. During my annual performance review my boss suggested (ahem) that I get a day-timer and start trying to use it to get organized. The main problem with this, other than a knee-jerk revulsion to this kind of vaguely parental thinking, is how am I going to keep track of the day-timer itself? I am a disorganized person, I'll be the second or third person to admit that but how is a little book going to help me? I have some more fundamental discipline issues to address before such a solution becomes practical. Ah well. The book itself arrived today. I guess I'll give it a go. It's a nice object to have about. I'm sure I look terribly professional *cough*. I think I'm going to round up my brother Matt's scanner and poke some pictures up here. I said I like my html a little dry, and I do, but the unrelieved white and black is a bit much. Some stuff If you are in the Tulsa area and are looking for a good lunch may I recommend Halim and Mimi's. They manage to put together some very very tasty lebanese dishes and the hummus is top-notch. It's not the nicest restaraunt you have been in by any stretch of the imagination but last time I checked you can't eat designer decor. *sigh* Cox communications. What can I say? They get an E for effort but it's just not working out for them. Seven cable techs, Six hours, and four phone calls and the geekhouse (geekhoush, these days) is still without broadband. In a related note: Cable modems are neat... this little surfboard we have (It's made by motorola) is an amazingly smart box. It's interesting. The nearest I can figure out cable modems work like this: The modem fires up it's HFC (cable) interface, tunes a channel, and speaks ethernet encoded in an mpeg-2 stream. It even does CSMA/CD. The HFC interface has a MAC address and everything. It gets even cooler. The cable modem then proceeds to get a DHCP lease (IP address), tftp it's configuration files, and, if necessary, update it's firmware. The Surfboard also does DHCP service, NAT, and some clever routing and access control. Cool, huh? CVS is fun... kinda. I don't have a new musical recommendation for today so I'll fall back on some older stuff. Clark got me excited about "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis. This is some of the best music you are likely to hear. Truly breathtaking. Support those bastard record companies. *sigh* "Who's that? Oh. My little friend Cupid. Wearin a shirt that says 'I'm with stupid'. Always nearby, whereever I go. He's lookin out for me, dontcha know?" As always, if this sparks you or you want to share something with me, please do so. |
