I've been kind of up in the air about blogging lately. The headspace is mostly self-indulgent crap, as you might have noticed. I either talk about what's going on in my head or the boring things I do day-to-day. In the end I can't say that either of those particularly belong on the web. If I were creating works of art, or had some interesting commentary on politics, or if I was doing technically interesting things I might feel differently.

As it is right now the headspace is mostly a set of technical experiments for me. The first experiment was to learn how to do web session management. The second was to learn a little bit of css. I suppose I might continue in that vein. I'd like to rewrite the whole mess in python. I'd like to add support for technorati tags and trackback. And, finally, I'd like to do some of the fancy AJAX editing tricks.

Another project I've been thinking about starting is something like a wiki for restaurants. I'd like a collaborative database of places to eat with rankings, reviews, etc. I'd like to have something that could suggest new places to eat for me as an individual or for groups based on some input (no italian, reasonable price, vegetarian options... that sort of thing). It might be fun if I could push it enough for it to catch on.

...

If you use instant messaging at all please consider switching to google talk. It's based on an open protocol that is supported by a wide variety of clients. All that's required is a gmail account. I believe they have open signups now but if you want to save a little bit of hassle let me know and I'll send you an invitation. In general I think google has earned most of the incredible good will they have. They've made some mistakes, of course, but I don't think this will prove to be one of them. If you already use it you can find me on as houshja [AT] gmail [DOT] com.

More after what promises to be a truly wretched afternoon meeting.

Restaurant Wiki
What scale would you want to make your restaurant Wiki? It seems like you would get a lot of information about restaurants if you created a wiki for all kinds of knowledge about Tulsa. I'm thinking of something like DavisWiki, but you might explicitly encourage people to write about restaurants and create a special restaurant template off the bat. I'm really interested in the concept of regionalized Wikis for things like sharing local history and politics. Restaurant review might be a way to anchor a Tulsa wiki. I think too many open-content projects have a once-size-fits-all mentality that fails to accommodate local differences.
loophole
Well, ideally I'd like it to be huge... nation/world wide. That's awfully ambitious for someone with my track-record. Your idea is a good one. It would be a lot easier to get people to use the thing if it was more generalized.
