As you may have heard elsewhere, Kara and I are engaged! We haven't set a date yet, before you ask. For my own part, I'd just like to say a big, hearty woot!
I proposed to her at the family gathering immediately after her graduation last saturday. I hid the ring in what seemed to be a fairly silly graduation gift... a silver fortune cookie that mom found somewhere. I spent a fair amount of time writing fortunes... I must have come up with a hundred of them. I finally settled on "Someone you love will bring up matters of the heart. Say Yes."
The funniest part, though, is that she nearly threw the ring itself away. It was wrapped in tissue paper to keep it from clinking around. When she finally figured it out (with some hints) I got on one knee and popped the actual question.
It was fun. :)
...
Congratulations to all of you graduated this semester. Way to go!
I'm so glad he thought it was fun, because I was in a state of utter shock! When I opened the gift, the only thought I had was "What?". Then I read the fortune and I THOUGHT he was proposing, but I wasn't sure-- I looked over at him and said yes anyway, just in case. :) When he told me to open the cookie because there was more, I opened it, saw the tissue paper and thought, "Wow, this cookie opens." FOr some reason, it didn't hit me that I should look INSIDE the paper. Plus, my 7 year old cousin was trying to talk to me at the time and she's very loud when she wants to be. He finally got my attention, I opened the paper and saw the ring-- and promptly started crying. It's gorgeous and I wasn't expecting it at all. I thought we were going on an engagement trip instead of getting an engagement ring! Needless to say, I was completely surprised-- which is a shocker seeing as how my entire immediate family knew about this and didn't spill the beans. It was a fantastic proposal and I can't get the smile off my face. I GET TO MARRY HIM!!!! WOOOOOT! :D
