Trailer Park Girl has put together a fun post on one of my favorite topics. Refreshing.
...
I just got the tail end of one of Clark's typically vitriolic rants. This time about the teachers' unions. My mother's lifelong teaching career gives this topic something of a squirm-factor for me... despite the fact that I have no idea if mom was in any of of the unions. I'll certainly grant that education in america is in a pitiful state but blaming teachers' unions seems a little absurd. Admittedly, I don't have the facts.
It seems to me that there is a poisonous knot of factors that contrive to keep our society too fat, stupid, and complacent to achieve anything meaningful. I would cite as the threads of that knot: Poor education, a legal system that is hopelessly out of control, and corporate power/money representing private agendas.
They only solution I can propose is to stay concerned and do what you can. Try and help the people around you do the same. Don't give in to the temptations to buy in.
