For some reason I have been thinking about clouds and rain today. It's not that we've had a whole lot of either lately, Oklahoma's meteorological state might more aptly be described as non-weather, but it's been on my mind.

My favorite kind of clouds are a little hard to describe... When it's a cloudy day but everywhere you look you see spots of sunlight and beautiful blue sky peeking through... and the clouds are almost transparent in places, those are the ones. This is not to say I don't like other types of clouds equally well, these are the ones that stick with me.

Oddly enough, this brings me to the arts, particularly music. When I hear the Orb's "Little Fluffy Clouds" it evokes a really, really strong image. I can just picture the very clouds the song describes. High above the arid arizona flats... just puffs or wisps calmly progressing. That's, in my mind, the line that separates my favorite pieces of art from all the rest: evocation of images and the ability to transport you.

As for raindrops, my favorite are definitely the great big ones at the start of a huge summer thunderstorm. Particularly the ones that make the fat dark splotches on the sidewalks and roads. There always seems to be a heavy smell of ozone (or something, not sure). Ahhh....

It really is the little things in life that make me happy most of the time. Cheesy, perhaps, but true.

Extra

It's time for another musical recommendation. In fact, it's way past time if you ask me. So, go check out just about anything by Kruder and Dorfmeister. Damn. They do some great work. I was listening to their stuff last night... it was one of those things... Have you ever had music fit your mood and situation like a soundtrack? Mmm.

I was having giovetsi at Jim's Coney Island today. They have a television there that seems to always be tuned to the worst of the lowest common denominator television. Today's treat was Maury, apparently. WTF? I can't figure out the appeal of these shows. Ugh.

Someone asked me what I believe the other day... it's complicated but I do know the rules by which I try and live. In case you wondered, here they are:

1. Some things are more important than others.
2. Everyone and everything is worthy of respect... learn to see how
3. Life is ONLY what you make of it... no more, no less. It's all in your court.
4. Life is beautiful... live it
5. Know yourself and to that self be true...

And that's pretty much it... but it's a handful to stick by....

How about you? What are your rules?

'scuse me, while I kiss this guy... (I know that's not the lyrics)

hmmm, interesting...
doesn't saying "life is only what you make it" and "life is beautiful" sound both a little contradictory and a little redundant at the same time? (sorry, haven't had enough caffeine today...) by this token, if life is beautiful, it's only because you made it so... not because it inherently is... fast food for thought.

Ugh. *bonk*
I suppose you're right. On the other hand, this type of back room philosophy traditionally has flaws in its logic. However, in order to correct that, let me restate: Life has an inherent beauty but, beyond that, is only what you make of it.

Thank you, please drive through,

I have trouble listening to that song without having some wacked out vision of a VW Bug floating around in the sky. Damn TV! Damn it straight to hell!

New LP
Dude, I just got the dopest new LP, and I feel compelled to share my feelings about it. Anyway, yeah, In Your Living Room by Chestnut Station is really, really fun. All happy blue-eyed-soul and everything. The label doesn't lie when it says its "The #1 Party Album by America's #2 Party Band!"
