Caveat Emptor

I pay most of my bills online these days. On the upside I generally pay them in a considerably more timely manner. The downside is that I don't always pay very close attention to what I'm actually paying for. Case in point: my phone bills have been high lately. I had attributed this to the fact that up until a few months ago we had ADSL. For some reason, though, the bills had stayed high, and finally this month I decided to find out why. It turns out that I had apparently chosen to pay MCI $33/month for long-distance... regardless of whether or not I actually made any long distance calls. Last month that translated to $3/minute for one 11 minute call to Denver. Ouch.

This pisses me off for a lot of reasons. The most painful, of course, is the fact that I somehow, in some moment of weakness that I shudder to think about now, let them sucker me. I'm precisely the kind of stupid consumer that these folks prey on. Go me!

Fun.

...

So, in another display of stupidity I managed to forget to set my alarm and, as a result, slept right through the peace rally on saturday. That's just the kind of non-activism washington is banking on right now. Go me!

...

As you can imagine I'm feeling like something of a imbecile right now. My mom would disown me.

Your comment here. it's the thought that counts. you mighta been screwed by the company, but ya figured it out. and you missed a peace rally. but you meant to go. at least you meant to be part of a worthy cause, and knowing the US of A, there will be plenty more times for you to hit a peace rally. You mighta missed the march, but you still have your votes coming up. anyways, stop being so damned down with yourself, bro ;)

war of the phones
i wouldn't get too worked up over missing the peace rally. i was out near 41st and yale post time for the rally and it was still wall to wall people. from what i saw it looked like the turnout was really really good.

None for me thanks...
fathom, that's why I don't have a cell phone. I'm never on the phone either, so why would I want to carry one around with me and pay

yes but
i actually use my cell phone more than my land line. that's why i pay for the cell phone. more often than not, when i actually need to use the phone is when i'm not near one, or at least that's how it used to be.
